A Dream Is Becoming Reality

Turpin entered the game as someone who would likely get cut or maybe make the practice squad. One half later, the former TCU wide receiver solidified himself a spot on the team. Can you imagine the Cowboys cutting him after Saturday’s performance? Not going to happen. Turpin is a Cowboy.
KaVontae is 26 years-old and has never played an NFL regular season game. He played professionally for “Fan Controlled Football,” followed by European League Football, and then the USFL. Turpin earned the USFL’s Most Valuable Player Award in the league’s inaugural season, playing for the New Jersey Generals.
The Cowboys took a flier on Turpin, inviting him to camp. He told reporters that he became more comfortable with his role leading up to the Chargers game. Turpin says he wants to make the most out of his opportunity.
R.J. Ochoa of BloggingTheBoys.com tweeted: “KaVontae Turpin is the most impactful free agent who the Dallas Cowboys have signed in 2022. There is no close second.”
I agree. Even if he only plays special teams, Turpin bolsters an element of the game that is often forgotten – kick returning. KaVontae’s 86-yard punt return for touchdown was incredibly impressive, as he was backpedaling when he caught the ball. KaVontae composed himself and found a seam, leading to the endzone.
That was BIG league – worthy of a contract. Turpin never gave up on his NFL dream. And now, it’s about to become a reality.
