The San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors’ franchises will forever be connected forever after the blockbuster trade that sent Kawhi Leonard to Canada and DeMar DeRozan to Texas among other players and picks involved in the deal.

The Spurs hosted the Raptors in their first matchup since the trade went down this summer, and the energy of DeRozan and the San Antonio crowd helped the Spurs jump out to a huge early lead and they never looked back during the 125-107 victory.

DeMar put up a triple-double against his former team with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists, and the Spurs got solid contributions from each of their starters in support of their new teammate.

Now DeRozan will head to Toronto for the first time as an opponent, and his emotions will assuredly be at an all-time high as he’s been outspoken about his anger towards the organization after being traded.

DeMar could use that energy for good like he did in the first meeting, or that could cause him to play recklessly and continue his turnover issues that have plagued him over the past few weeks.

DeRozan and the rest of the Spurs’ roster will have the benefit of an All-Star weekend off as LaMarcus Aldridge was their only representative in Charlotte last weekend.

San Antonio could also get a boost from the return of their starting point guard Derrick White if he’s fully recovered from his most recent heel injury.

The Spurs will look to pick up their second win of the Rodeo Road Trip on Friday night in a game that is much bigger than a typical regular season matchup for players on both sides.
