Cuellar: Border deal includes $1.375 billion for barrier, 41k ICE detention beds
SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A deal in principle has been reached on a border security funding deal, Rep. Henry Cuellar told KTSA’s Jack Riccardi Tuesday morning.
The congressman stated the deal includes $1.375 billion for a physical barrier and funding for over 41,000 beds in ICE detention centers.
Cuellar said the deal needs to be formally written up into the appropriate appropriation bills before the 17 congressional members who negotiated the deal sign off.
The Laredo representative said that will either happen Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
From there, it will go on to the full House and the full Senate for votes.
“Will the far right be happy? No. Will the far left be happy? No,” Cuellar stated.
Should it pass both chambers, it will go to the White House for the president’s signature.
