Every sports fan understands the magnitude of a Game 7 and this weekend we had seven game sevens between the NBA and the NHL.

The NBA Game 7s were duds. Boston blew out Milwaukee and what the hell happened to the Phoenix Suns? Dallas blew out the Suns in Phoenix – the game was over by halftime. Not what you expect in a playoff game let alone a Game 7.

The Stanley Cup playoffs have been incredible and five first round series went the distance. We had 3 Game 7’s on Saturday and all were great games but not as good as what we got on Sunday with both games going to overtime.

For only the second time in NHL playoff history, two game 7s went to OT on the same day.

You were up well past the eclipse if you saw the Calgary Flames end the Dallas Stars season with a 3-2 OT win in a wildly intense hockey game that ended right around midnight on the Flames 67th shot. Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger was spectacular and the only reason Dallas was in it – the kid made incredible save after incredible save. Otter is only 23, so the future is bright for Dallas, they just need to find some offense.

Maybe with the Mavs up 40, you stopped watching bad basketball and tuned in to see the New York Rangers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in overtime.

Hockey delivered with the excitement and intensity we expect from a Game 7, it’s also why we love sports. The best reality TV out there because you never know what is going to happen…just ask the Phoenix Suns.
