I am not a fan of preseason polls in college sports.

The fact that some coach voted the Texas Longhorns No. 1 proves they are worthless – although in sports talk radio they do create nice content. But they are worthless.
I have often said I pay attention to polls in mid-October. By then, we do have a good idea of what teams are and where they should be ranked in a Top 25.
The College Football Playoff announced today that the first CFB Top 25 will be released on November 1st with the final rankings, including the playoff field, being announced on Sunday December 4th.
That is the way it should be. While it won’t give us weeks of argument topics, it will give us an accurate idea of what the committee is thinking.
