Kincey, Hayes lead Alabama State in 24-3 win over D-II Miles College in home opener
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Daquon Kincey ran for 137 yards and a 65-yard touchdown and James Hayes threw a pair of touchdown passes as Alabama State stung in-state rival Miles College 24-3 in the Hornets’ home opener Saturday.
An NCAA Division II-member, Miles snapped a 26-game losing streak to the Hornets a year ago, posting a 21-17 victory at ASU Stadium. Kincey ran for 137 yards and a 65-yard touchdown and James Hayes threw a pair of touchdown passes as Alabama State stung in-state rival Miles College 24-3 in the Hornets’ home opener Saturday.

Alabama State scored on the game’s opening series when Hayes connected with Asa Gregg for a 60-yard touchdown on the third play from scrimmage. The teams traded second-quarter field goals before Kincey broke free for his long touchdown run. Hayes capped the half with an 8-yard toss to Jalen Jones with 13 seconds left. The teams were scoreless in the second half.
Hayes completed just 5 of 11 pass attempts for 88 yards, two for touchdowns with an interception. The Hornets’ ground game had 191 yards on 41 carries.
Kamren Ivory was 16-of-32 passing for the Golden Bears (0-2) but was picked off twice.
