Tennessee baseball’s 23-game winning streak splinters in 3-2 loss in wood-bat game against Tennessee Tech

KODAK — Kyle Booker hit a spinning ground ball to third base on Tennessee baseball‘s final opportunity Tuesday.
Tennessee Tech’s Gabe Lacy fielded it cleanly and fired across the infield. For the first time since early March, the Vols watched as the final out of the game was recorded and an opponent celebrated a win.
Tennessee’s 23-game winning streak splintered. The No. 1 Vols (31-2) lost 3-2 to Tennessee Tech (18-12) in a wood-bat game at Smokies Stadium.
“We got beat regardless of where we were playing or what bats we were using,” Vols coach Tony Vitello said.
Tennessee fell one game short of matching the longest win streak in SEC history. Texas A&M won 24 straight in 2015. The Vols had not lost since a 7-2 defeat against then-No. 1 Texas on March 4.
