Usually this time of year we hear the shouts, “How Bout Them Cowboys” or ” this is our year”, but for some reason this year, the excitement level doesn’t seem to be as high as in year’s past. Many Cowboys fans seem to be resigned to mediocrity this season. In other words, win the NFC East, make the playoffs, maybe win a game and we will be happy. Heck even the ever optimistic Jerry Jones says all he expects from the Cowboys this year is to be “viable” in the playoffs. Not sure what he means but the statement was surprising to say the least.

But maybe all of that is the advantage the Cowboys need to finally get over the top. It has been a long, long, long time since the Cowboys played in a Super Bowl and playoff wins have been few and far between. So heading into this season with the expectations at a minimum could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
It will be an interesting season for the Cowboys, it always is, but this year has so much intrigue, from Zeke Elliott playing for his job, to Dak Prescott looking to prove he is an elite quarterback, then there’s the offensive line  and of course, the emerging greatness of Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs.
Great storylines for sure but not great enough to expect greatness from this Cowboys team. But maybe just maybe that is the right formula for success! But please, don’t get excited, keep those expectations down, the Cowboys are depending on you!
