These Nostalgic Movie Reviews might be changing me…

Listeners often question me about my nostalgic movie reviews. They just cannot believe that I have gone my entire life without watching these all-time classics. Some of these movies I now love. Others, I cannot stand. And, that’s the funny part: People often become offended by my reviews if they are critical.

Since I started hosting Halftime in October, I have reviewed 20 classic movies, including E-T, Jaws, Urban Cowboy, Scarface, An Officer and a Gentleman, The Terminator, The Outsiders, and most recently The Fast and the Furious. I truly believe watching these movies for the first time is making me a better person. I am no longer that dork who has not seen (fill in the blank).

It’s so odd watching films that were wildly popular back in the day, but I never got a chance to see. People ask me why. Maybe it’s because my parents didn’t let me. Maybe it’s because I was more interested in sports and friends. I’m now in my 40’s watching movies that premiered when I was a teen or young adult. The eyes I have now are different than the ones I had back then. I am 45, not 15.

So many people criticized me for giving “The Warriors” and “Big Trouble in Little China” terrible reviews. I stand by my comments. Those movies sucked. Big time. In fact, I question how anyone and any time in history would have enjoyed that garbage.

On the flipside, it’s been fun watching a movie I never thought I would have liked, but actually enjoyed. Adam Sandler’s “The Waterboy” and Vin Diesel’s “The Fast and the Furious” come to mind. I will be quoting these movies for the rest of my life. “Scarface” is another movie that I loved and can’t wait to see again.

I picture myself reviewing movies for another two years because there’s so much I have yet to see. I’ve already been warned by many *not to review “Transformers 1986.” Apparently, it’s a sacred movie for men who are now in their 40’s and 50’s. That cracks me up. It’s just a cartoon, for crying out loud. Will I ever review Transformers 1986? Damn straight, I will.
