Can’t remember a time when there was so  much attention given to the Open Championship, the final major of the year on the PGA Tour. The LIV golfers against the PGA Tour golfers, who would come out on top? Trash talk in golf, something we don’t see very often. But then the Tournament began and the drama built each and every day, the biggest question seemed to be, would Rory McElroy break through? Heading into Sunday’s final it was Rory’s for the taking, play well and it’s yours! What he did not count on was a clutch performance that rivals any I have seen in my time covering sports. An Australian player who sports a mullet and a mustache, Cameron Smith.

Smith Made the turn at 2 under par and then proceeded to take over, five straight birdies to start the back nine, unheard of in any tournament, much less a major. but even after all of that, it would come down to Rory’s final shot. Please don’t say Rory choked, he did not, the putter just didn’t work for him on this Sunday and Smith’s worked like a magic wand, putt after putt falling with a magical sound when hitting the bottom.
Golf fans seem to be happy Smith finished on top after his second round of 64. We shouldn’t be surprised, he always seems to be near the top. But this time with his mullet flapping in the wind, Cameron Smith is a major champion for the first time, but most likely not the last.
Mullets and mustaches, a winning combination!
