Todd McShay has Cowboys taking Alabama Safety in Mock 2.0

with the 17th pick McShay has the Cowboys taking Alabama Safety Xavier McKinney. Cornerback Byron Jones could be the odd man out with Dak, Amari, Quinn and other big names all entering free agency this offseason. Jones is part of a secondary that fared well ranking 10th in the NFL passing defense allowing 223.5 yards per game but struggled to produce takeaways tied for a league low 7 interceptions in 2019 (Lions, Cardinals). The Cowboys seemed to have found a gem in the 6th round with Xavier Woods, but a playmaker is needed in the back end. McKinney has some range as a deep safety — he pulled in three interceptions on the back end for Bama last season.

The Cowboys could have their pick of the best safeties in this class at 17 as LSU safety Grant Delpit was also available to them and ending up going 23rd to the Patriots, who conversely led the NFL with 25 interceptions this season.
