When Real Life Steps In

have been so blessed over my adult life to have a career that allows me to report on and talk about games. Sports is something that I love and because we live in the greatest country on the planet, I get paid to talk about it. My partner on The Blitz, Jason Minnix calls what we do is working in the “toy department” and I have to agree.
Sports are the escape from the real world we all have to deal with every day. Today, I am happy to be back in the toy department. This third week in October is always a reality check for me and my wife Maggie. Maggie is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed some 15 years ago but battled through it and now is cancer free. But once a year we have to make the drive to Houston to visit MD Anderson where Maggie goes through all the tests and procedures to make sure nothing has come back.
Last Monday was that day and let me tell you it is always a stressful day, even though we never expect to get bad news, the reality is, it is always possible. Maggie is one of the most optimistic and positive people I know, but on this day, even she gets a little stressed.
Fortunately for us, everything went well and we can move on until next October. I know all of you have dealt with something in your lives and if you haven’t you will. All of this reinforces the love for what I get to do every day. We all need an escape from the day to day worries we all face. I truly appreciate all who read this article and I am appreciative that I am able to share my thoughts with all of you. I know that life is good, a blessing, but there are those bumps in the road from time to time. Thank you for allowing me to do what I do and I hope you all have an outlet or a good friend that allows you to share your struggles.
