Zack Martin Wants A New Deal…Does Jerry Need To Get It Done?

It certainly seemed like the Dallas Cowboys were going to a drama free start training camp next week in Oxnard.

That changed this morning when Adam Schefter tweeted that Zack Martin is considering not reporting to camp because he us unhappy with his contract and the teams lack of interest in restructuring it. Schefter tweeted Martin believes he is “woefully underpaid relative to the market”

Martin is scheduled to make about $7 million less this season than the NFL’s top-paid guards.

Minutes later, Zack Martin changed his Twitter profile picture to the Madden 99 Club photo. Martin is the first guard in the 99 Club since Larry Allen in 2003. And for those that don’t know, 99 is the highest rating possible in the game.

We don’t know how long Martin has been trying to rework his contract. He did not participate in OTA’s or minicamp, at the time saying he was nursing a soft tissue injury.

Martin is a future Hall of Famer and at 27, has plenty of great years ahead of him. This is the business side of football. Jerry and Stephen have to make this a priority and Zack will get a raise. Martin is one of the top 3 players on the team.

How long do you think it will take Jerry to get this deal done? Let me know on Twitter @JasonMinnix and of course we will be talking about it on The Blitz weekdays 2-6 on 94.1 San Antonio Sports Star and SASportsStar.com
